Hate to Shop? Now Alexa Can Have Whole Foods Deliver

Amazon Prime members can now ask Alexa (or shop online) for organic groceries and other products — and expect to have them delivered in as little as an hour.

Add food delivery to the benefits of being an Amazon Prime member.

Whole Foods Market and Amazon (which bought Whole Foods for just under $14 billion in 2017) have launched home delivery of Whole Foods products through its Prime Now service in half a dozen new regions across the U.S.  — including Pittsburgh.

“With our goal to cover as many Prime customers as possible with this new service in Pittsburgh, our coverage is expansive,” says Tanvi Patel, head of business development for Prime Now. “Today we’re excited to reach customers from Mars in the north, to Finleyville in the south, and from Baden and Canonsburg in the west to Monroeville in the east.”

Prime members will be able to shop online for produce, meat, seafood and other Whole Food staples — and get it quickly. Delivery within one hour costs $7.99. Two hour delivery is free on orders of $35 or more.

Amazon began the delivery service earlier in 2018 with the goal of expanding across the U.S. The addition of Pittsburgh makes 53 cities in which the food delivery service is available.

Not available yet, at least in Pittsburgh, is curbside grocery pickup. The service launched in August and is available in eight cities, including the new cities of Dayton, Louisville and Omaha, with plans to expand to other regions.

Food delivery will be available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, also can aid in grocery shopping. Members can add items to their Whole Foods Market cart simply by saying “Alexa, add (insert your item here) to my Whole Foods cart.” Upon checkout, they can just say “Alexa, check out my Whole Foods cart.”

For more information, visit (or command Alexa) here.
