Watch: Pirates Fan with Cannon-Like Arm Starts New Tradition?

At PNC Park, the idea of tossing an opposing team's home run ball back onto the field is so yesterday.

The tradition, begun in Wrigley Field years ago, of fans tossing an opposing player's home-run ball back onto the field may be undergoing a change at PNC Park.

In the first inning Friday night, the Cardinals' Jedd Gyorko launched a home run ball into the stands behind center field. A man wearing a Pirates jersey snagged the ball and without a moment's hesitation, turned and threw it over the stands behind him and right into the Allegheny River.

Whether this man's obvious frustration at that moment had anything to do with the outcome of the game is impossible to gauge, but the Pirates went on to win 5-2.
