Shop + Gallery Pops Up in Mt. Lebanon For the Holidays

Locally made products from Rutz Naturals and artwork by Kelly Brown, plus other gifts and goodies, will be sold at the temporary location through Dec. 31.

A new, temporary boutique is hitting Mt. Lebanon just in time for the start of the holiday shopping season.

Located in the former Party Cake Shop on Beverly Road, the Pop-Up Shop + Gallery is a collaboration between Mt. Lebanon residents Kelly Brown, an artist, and Stephanie Schuler, founder of Rutz Naturals.

A practicing reiki master, Schuler created Rutz in 2013. The plant-based, organic line of skincare and home products recently added non-toxic candles and surface cleaners (which come in savory scents ranging from Lemongrass to Cilantro and Lime) to its collection of eye creams, body lotions and facial elixirs.

Schuler, whose mother is Native American, says she grew up making all-natural lotions and body scrubs using only botanical ingredients and aromatic essential oils. Each Rutz product also is infused with reiki energy from either Schuler or her staff, she says.

A dancer, Brown recently returned to the Pittsburgh area after 15 years of living in France. Her artwork, influenced by her dance background, explores abstracts and often features birds, especially the chickadee, which Brown says on her website serve as a joyful reminder to take flight.

The shop and gallery also will carry luxury athleisure clothing created by Mt. Lebanon High School graduate Joah Brown (Kelly Brown's niece) in a homey setting featuring bookshelves and tabletop displays. There also will be an array of consumer conscious gift items to choose from, including jewelry, yoga cushions and semi-precious stones.

The Pop-Up Shop + Gallery, which opened last week, will run through Dec. 31. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Friday, when the store stays open until 7 p.m.
