Go Behind The Scenes With Our 2017 Home of the Year Winners

Go behind the scene in choosing this year’s Best New Build, Best Renovation, Best Kitchens and Best Bathroom winners. Plus, get the scoop on entering next year’s competition.

Pittsburgh has some really outstanding homes, as evidenced by this year’s 2017 Home of the Year winners.

And while the homes (each amazing in their own way) range in style and size, they have one thing in common — they’re all located within Pittsburgh neighborhoods: Lawrenceville, Mount Washington and the Strip District.

So how did the winners get picked? As was the case last year, judging for the contest was blind. To ensure complete fairness and neutrality in the process, Pittsburgh Magazine asked a panel of professionals in Cleveland’s building industry to act as judges in the competition.

As they reviewed contest entries and chose our winners, judges considered such criteria as innovative or creative design and construction work. All construction or renovation was required to have been completed in 2016.

Now that the 2017 winners have been chosen, we’re already looking ahead to next year. If you are building or remodeling a home this year, consider entering it in our 2018 Home of the Year contest.

We’re accepting submissions for next year’s competition now at pittsburghmagazine.com/besthome.

Last-Minute Valentine's Day Finds

If you’re searching for a last-minute gift for your sweetie, consider this: flowers fade and chocolates get eaten, but a gift for the home lasts forever.

With that in mind, Splurge home décor and gift shop in Fox Chapel is hosting a Qudo trunk show from 12 to 3 p.m. today to kick off the line being carried in the store. Qudo features interchangeable jewelry.

Anyone who tries on a Qudo product at the boutique today will be entered into a raffle to win a free Qudo ring. As a bonus, anyone who spends $100 or more on Valentine’s Day will receive $10 in Splurge Bucks.
