After years of living with a tiny master bathroom, clients of Paris native Catherine Montague desired a spa-like experience when they added a new master suite — including a large bathroom, walk-in closet and sitting room — to their home.

A LEED-AP certified interior designer, Montague, the owner of Green Design Innovation in Sewickley, says her clients envisioned a harmonious space using various shades of blue. To achieve that, Montague added blue and white marble and glass tile found at SPLASH Kitchen Bath Home to the wall with two vanities, as well as to a shower wall and around the double-sided fireplace, which is shared with the bedroom. The overall effect gives the bathroom the peaceful illusion of running water.

“I fell in love with the glass tiles, as they captured the spirit of the bathroom,” Montague says. To balance the blue color palette — and frame the glass tiles — the designer used white subway tiles. Large floor tiles with shades of blue also complement the walls while the dark cabinets anchor the room, Montague says. She accessorized the space with whites and browns with bits of green.

“I love the feel of this bathroom as it relaxing and welcoming to a man and woman alike,” she says.

home of the year submissions

It’s that time of year again! Pittsburgh Magazine is looking for submissions for our 2016 Home of the Year contest.

We're looking for the best example of innovative or creative design and construction work in a new build or renovation; the best use of green technology and materials; and sensitivity to historical significance, if that aspect is applicable. The home must be a single-family dwelling; construction or renovation must have been completed in 2015.

New this year: We’ll also be taking submissions for Best New Kitchen, Best Renovated Kitchen, Best New Bathroom and Best Renovated Bathroom.

Please send us your submissions, including the home’s location, contractor/architect, defining characteristics and a few photos, to jsinichak@pittsburghmagazine.com, or visit here for the submission form.
