The university breaks ground on the world’s first academic campus to feature an original design based on sustainability.

In case you haven't heard, Chatham University was recently named to the Princeton Review’s 2013 Green Honor Roll. Adding to its list of "green" accomplishments, Chatham broke ground on Oct. 11 to construct the world’s first academic campus to feature an original design based on sustainability.

Since 2008, the university raised about $28.6 million to fund the project, including support from the Eden Hall Foundation and Richard King Mellon Foundation. The Eden Hall Campus design features new green buildings and a focus in sustainable management techniques for land, energy and water while protecting and incorporating nearby watersheds, land, agricultural resources and existing farm structures. Small but sophisticated, the campus will accommodate more than 1,000 students and become the home of the School of Sustainability and the Environment (SSE).

CMU Accepts Applications for Launch of New Female-Focused Academy
If you’re a current businesswoman who wants to excel, Carnegie Mellon University may have a great opportunity for you. Women who want to bridge the gender gap and strengthen their business skills can now apply for admission into the first term of the Heinz Negotiation Academy for Women. Participants who complete the program will gain a certificate from the Heinz College at CMU.

From Jan. 18 to May 11, participants must put in 80 hours throughout the course of five monthly meetings, each comprised of one Friday and one Saturday session from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Courses will focus on a variety of topics related to negotiation, networking, authority, communication, branding, team conflict and decision-making. If you hurry and pay tuition by Nov. 1, you’ll receive a $750 tuition discount!

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Joins in on Milestone Celebration at La Roche College
You may recognize Nicholas Kristof’s name from his column in The New York Times (or his many other publications). But he’s also a renowned activist. Among his many accomplishments, Kristof brought to light the issue of human rights in Darfur and the Congo, as well as human trafficking and women’s oppression worldwide.

On Oct. 29, you can join La Roche College in celebrating its 50th anniversary with this “reporters’ reporter” and Pulitzer Prize winner’s presentation of “A Call to Action: Encouraging Young People to Join the ‘World’s Fight’ and Take on a Cause Larger than Themselves.” Hosted in the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center, the free presentation will begin at 7 p.m. after the 6 p.m. reception ends.
