South Side BBQ Co. Rolls Out Its Truck

Pat Joyce recently debuted the South Side BBQ Truck, which he runs with his brother Mike. We're predicting that an offbeat menu item will become the company’s claim to fame: the BarBCone — a homemade waffle cone stuffed with pepperjack mac 'n' cheese, pulled pork, cole slaw, barbecue sauce and jalapeños. South Side BBQ Co. also offers other "basic things," such as chicken, ribs and brisket. For the brisket, which is smoked on the truck, the brothers use their grandmother's recipe, locally sourced meat and applewood. Find them at Coffee Buddha March 29 during the food-truck roundup.

The annual Farm to Table Pittsburgh Conference, where produce, plants and seasonal items are sold,kicked off this morning and will run through tomorrow evening. There's a full roster of speakers and exhibitors — including Barre and Frankferd Farms — making a visit worth your while. The event affords a prime opportunity to become better informed about food policy, CSA programs and other food- and health-centric topics.

In preparation for Passover, the Pittsburgh Jewish Center will host a kosher tasting event Sunday. Pete Hanowich, a regular host of local wine events, will offer insight on each of the varieties being sampled. In addition to drinks, the ticket fee covers light bites and chocolate, plus the opportunity to tango to live music.
