Furs We Favor for a Pittsburgh Winter Wedding

Tying the knot when it will be cold outside? These Pittsburgh brides combined warmth and elegance by choosing fur.

Fall and winter weddings have the slight disadvantage of being too chilly for classic outdoor portraits. However, there are still ways to get great photographs, without sacrificing fashion. Here are some of our favorite fur wraps.

Donna Pappano and Zach Giallonardo: Dec. 3
For her December wedding, Donna chose a white BCBG jacket from Macy’s with a mink stole made from her great-grandmother’s full-length mink coat.

“My grandmother wore the stole to my mother’s December wedding, so I decided to use it for pictures and as my "something old,” Donna says.

Megan Worbs and Rick Hoffmaster: Dec. 30
Megan’s fur was her “something borrowed.” Her bridesmaid, Sarah Sokoloski LaVoie, was given the vintage garment by a close family friend, who is more than 100 years old. Sarah and Megan knew the fur would be a timeless element to add to the wedding.

Caitlin Harpster and Alex Toner: Dec. 30
Caitlin, a vegetarian, had never purchased a fur before. However, her late grandmother owned several, and Caitlin says wearing the fur on her wedding day was an excellent way to carry her grandmother’s memory with her.

Katrina Kelley and Cody Spangler: Dec. 31
Katrina chose her white fur, purchased at Macy’s, because she knew she would be taking photos outside on New Year’s Eve. Attached was a brooch from her grandmother she wore as her “something borrowed.”

Katrina wanted a classy yet chic look and she wanted her bridesmaids to be able to stay warm during the photo shoots, so her attendants wore gold sequin dresses with black furs, which were purchased at Target.
